ヨハネの福音書
The Gospel of John

世界が創造される以前 Before the world was created,
言（キリスト）がすでに存在しておられた the Word already existed;
（この「言」とは単なる音声ではなく、神の御思いや御本質の顕現をいい、キリストをさす）
　このかたは神と共におられた he was with God,
彼は神に等しかった and he was the same as God.
(キリストは「子なる神」でもあられる）
はじめから From the very beginning
言は神と共におられた the Word was with God.
（キリストは、父なる神と一体である）
彼を通して Through him
神はすべてのものを造られた God made all things;
造られたもののうち何一つとして not one thing in all creation
彼ぬきに造られたものはない was made without him.
言（キリスト）は、命の源であった The Word was the source of life,
この命は人類に光をもたらした and this life brought light to mankind.
光は闇の中に輝いている The light shines in the darkness,
そして闇はこれを消すことがなかった and the darkness has never put it out.
